As Optum Behavioral Health continues the transition to the ASAM 4th Edition Criteria for addiction and substance use disorder treatment, we are updating the Platinum Recognition Program methodology to align with the updated criteria. In 2025, the Substance Use Disorder Partial Hospitalization Program level of care will not be included in Platinum tiering. The metrics and methodology will remain the same for all other specific level of care and diagnostic group combinations.
What this means for you
There is nothing for you to do. The Platinum program will continue to evaluate providers for all eligible programs.

About ASAM 4th Edition Criteria
Optum Behavioral Health began the transition to the ASAM 4th Edition criteria earlier this year. The criteria is used by providers for level of care determination, treatment plan development and by Optum to review level of care authorization requests and coverage determinations. It is specific to adult members covered by a Commercial health plan; we continue to use the ASAM 3rd Edition criteria for adolescent placement.
