Gain access to important medical info for your clients

As a behavioral health provider, you likely already use the Provider Express secure portal to check eligibility and benefits, submit prior authorization requests, check claim status and complete other administrative tasks related to the mental health services you provide.

Yet behavioral health is only one part of your client’s health picture. What about their medical history and treatment?

That’s where the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal comes in.

A distinct portal for medical care

The UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal is exactly what the name outlines – a secure provider portal specific to medical services covered by UnitedHealthcare plans. It has tools similar to those you use on the Provider Express secure portal, so you can complete many of the same administrative tasks related to medical claims.

But wait, there’s more.

By registering for the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal, you’ll gain access to your client’s Individual Health Record (IHR), as well as receive admission, discharge and transfer (ADT) notifications of emergency room visits and inpatient stays for behavioral health services.

This makes it easier for you understand their complete health picture, communicate relevant treatment information and coordinate care with other health practitioners, such as primary medical providers and specialists.

How to register for the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal

  1. Learn more about the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal and the IHR
  2. Then, review the Access and New Registration Guide for step-by-step instructions
  3. Next, register for portal access:
    • If you already use the Provider Express secure portal, you can use the same One Healthcare ID and password to set up access to the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal.
    • If you need assistance, please contact UnitedHealthcare Web Support at providertechsupport@uhc.com or 866-842-3278, option 1, 7 a.m.–9 p.m. Central Time, Monday–Friday.
  1. When you need to access the portal, go to UHCprovider.com and click Sign In located in the upper right corner. Then sign in with your One Healthcare ID and password.

Improving quality of care

Individuals with mental health and substance abuse disorders frequently rely on multiple treatment professionals for care. Additionally, a significant number of people with serious medical conditions also have behavioral health conditions.

It’s easier to understand your client’s complete health picture when you have an account set up with both the Provider Express secure portal (behavioral information) and the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal (medical and select behavioral information).

Effectively coordinating care between behavioral health and medical providers can lead to improved health outcomes and reduced healthcare costs.
