Required training for SCO and One Care network providers

Beginning Jan. 1, 2026, Optum is managing behavioral health services for members enrolled in two Massachusetts dual-eligible special needs plans (D-SNP): Mass General Brigham Health Plan’s D-SNP One Care and Senior Care Options (SCO).

If you are contracted with Optum to provide services to members in one or both of these networks, you will need to complete Model of Care training before Dec. 31, 2026. We encourage you to complete the training prior to working with members, if possible.

Why D-SNP training is required

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) mandates that all special needs plans (SNPs) provide initial and annual Model of Care training to their contracted providers. It’s also required for out-of-network providers who routinely see SNP members. This is to ensure providers are equipped to meet the unique, complex medical and social needs of SNP members. The training will help you to:

  • Understand key elements of the SCO and One Care models of care
  • Learn more about the SCO and One Care member populations
  • Know your role in supporting the model of care

Complete the SNP MOC training

To meet the CMS requirement, you must complete the Mass General Brigham 10-minute, self-paced Model of Care training course. We encourage you to complete the training prior to engaging with SNP members. Be sure to complete the attestation instructions so that there is record of you completing this training.

Other things you need to know

  • There is no universal SNP Model of Care training because care management processes vary across insurers. This means you may be asked to complete training by other D-SNP insurers.
  • If you only work with members covered by UnitedHealthcare commercial plans, you do not have to take the Model of Care training. Only providers who are contracted with Optum to provide services to members in one or both of the MGBHP D-SNP networks need to complete Model of Care training..
  • Attestations (individual or group) are completed at the end of the course and reporting is gathered monthly. CMS may request a copy of the completed attestation (initial and/or annual).
