Rhode Island: As of Sept. 1, 2025, Optum will no longer manage behavioral health benefits for Rhode Island members

Effective Sept. 1, 2025, Optum will no longer manage the behavioral health benefits for Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island (Neighborhood).

What you need to know 

  • Services rendered on or after Sept. 1, 2025: Neighborhood Health Plan will begin directly managing all behavioral health benefits for members in all lines of business. To continue working with Neighborhood members, you’ll need go through their contracting process.

  • Services rendered through Aug. 31, 2025: Optum will continue to support Neighborhood with behavioral health services for all dates of service. Please continue to submit these claims as you do today. There’s no change to processes or member benefits currently administered via Optum prior to Sept. 1, 2025

Contracting with Neighborhood  

Urgent Notice: Any contracts (participation agreements) that you currently have with Optum are not transferred to Neighborhood Health Plan.

If you want to continue providing behavioral health services to Neighborhood members beginning Sept. 1, 2025, you must complete an application to join the Neighborhood network to begin the credentialing/contracting process. Be sure to complete the application as soon as possible to avoid any delays in contracting with Neighborhood. Review this update for more details.

As a participating (contracted) provider, your existing Optum participation agreement requires no action as a result of this change in benefits administration for Neighborhood Health Plan. Your Optum participation agreement remains intact and in full force for all lines of business managed by Optum.
