New Jersey: ​Contracted providers are required to provide members timely access to care

As an Optum network provider, you play a vital role in providing UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of New Jersey members with timely care to ensure optimal mental health and quality of life. 

As a reminder, network providers are required to adhere to the following contractual appointment access standards:

Routine outpatient care 

  • Respond within 24 hours to a member request for routine outpatient care
  • Offer an initial mental health /substance use disorder appointment within 10 business days of the request

Urgent/emergency care 

  • Offer an appointment within 24 hours
  • Offer an appointment within 6  hours for non-life-threatening emergencies
  • Offer an immediate appointment for any life-threatening emergency

Follow-up after discharge 

  • Offer a mental health/substance use disorder outpatient appointment within 7 days of an acute inpatient discharge and/or visit to the emergency room
