Virginia: Enhanced submission process for Virginia Medicaid MHS authorizations

Beginning Sept. 4, 2025, you’ll submit Virginia Medicaid mental health services prior authorizations through the secure portal. The current electronic submission process on the Virginia authorization forms page won’t be available after the new process launches. Any authorizations that were submitted or issued using the previous form prior to the new process are still valid.

Easy and secure

Using the Provider Express secure portal allows you to submit prior authorization requests securely and provides access to these time-saving features available through your real-time online dashboard:

• Your individual group profile
• Search for members
• Track requests, outcomes and view authorization details

How to submit a request

• Log in to Providerexpress.com using your One Healthcare ID; if you’re a new user, create a One Healthcare ID here
• From the Auths drop-down menu, select Auth Request
• You can either select Request for a new authorization or View my Census to view your authorization requests for recent members and the status
• Select Virginia Mental Health Services when requesting a new authorization
• Follow the prompts to select the service that requires authorization and then Continue to begin your request
• Search for the member by Member ID or by the Name and Date of Birth, select the Member and then Continue
• You may now enter your request details. Be sure to select the correct document type if you’re attaching documents. Then submit your request.

These services will be included in the new process:

For all other services, you’ll continue to use your current process to submit prior authorizations. The above services for the new prior authorization submission process will not be included as an option when using your current process.
